"Just wanted to say thank you for what you do - it's fantastic work and inspires so many people."

— Becky Glass - Artist

"Big fan of Dark Yellow Dot I should say, what a fantastic platform for emerging artists!"

— Exhibitions Coordinator, Cass Art

"I've had some lovely feedback from the public who have seen my work up at the Genesis Gallery, so all very encouraging. This whole experience has given me a great boost to get my website up and push myself forward. It's great I've sold a piece and with the exhibition being up longer there is more opportunity to sell still so that's great. It's lovely to hear people talking about my work with enthusiasm."

— Chloe Amy Avery Exhibited Artist, OverFlow

When will I hear back?

If we have selected your artwork, we’ll get in touch by email. If we can’t reach you there, we may try to catch you on Instagram.

If you apply to Artist of The Month or 1B Window Gallery, these are ongoing opportunities. You’ll only hear from us if you’ve been successfully chosen for that month. We keep entries incase we want to consider you for any of the months following.

If you apply to our other exhibitions or collaborative projects, we’ll tell you either way if you’ve been selected or not. It could take up to 3 weeks after the given deadline to be notified.

How do you select your artists?

We select artists based on the artwork first. Selections are based on a few criteria as well as visual strength.

As for the types of art, we’re always open! We love to find artists doing new and interesting things with their medium of choice. We look for artists who have a unique approach to the medium or subject, and try to make sure all artists have a fair chance and haven’t been selected too many times before, if at all.We check for inappropriate/offensive material or descriptions.

Sometimes our call outs aimed at a specific demographic, whether that be respective of location, age, ethnicity or gender. For example the Female Gaze exhibition was calling female identifying artists, our BOLD exhibition was a call for Black artists, our LIFTED art competitions are for under 25’s and our exhibitions at the Genesis are for London based artists.

When we partner with venues for exhibitions or arts markets, we’ll get their opinion on what art works best in their space.

For the website / Artist of The Month, we accept art in any medium, except film and performing art. Although sometimes we consider film and performance art for certain occasions or events.

If you’re not sure if your artwork will be appropriate, you can see our exhibitions section or go to @darkyellowdot on Instagram to see who we’ve selected in the past.

I'm having issues submitting my art, what can I do?

Try the following, even if they seem obvious as these are typically the most common fixes:

– Make sure you’ve filled out all the requested information.
– Make sure your images are no bigger than 15MB
– Clear your cache!
– Accepted images typed are jpg, pdf, jpeg, img, png
– How’s your internet connection? Make sure you’re all connected.
– Press the NEXT button only once after you’ve filled out all the info, and then wait a moment.

– Try refreshing the page, and then re-enter your info

If all else fails, submit via Google

Do I have to pay to submit my art?

Sometimes. We pride ourselves on creating both free and affordable submission fees, because we’re artists too and know what it’s like to spend on expensive application fees.

Submission fees are in place not only to maintain and update the website, but allows for the time it takes to go through each application carefully reading your descriptions, reviewing your work, and sharing artwork online so that we can continue creating opportunities for artists like you.

When you fill in the application form, you’ll be redirected to a payment page powered by PayPal.

How will you use my art?

We use your art for the intended purposes of featuring or promoting you.

We only use artwork by selected artists, who have already given us permission. This may be on our website, on printed marketing materials for exhibitions, in our emails or on social media (including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and Tumblr)

We always give credit to the artists and/or the source of the artwork.

We do not replicate or reproduce your original artwork, and we do not attain copyrights on your artwork.
