Home Made: Lauren Little

Lauren Little

Lauren Little is a collage artist, curator, art teacher and the founder of Dark Yellow Dot.

“This is a collage art installation inspired by my Nan’s front room. My Nan made London her home after coming from Jamaica in the 60’s. Her house was a collision of items that probably should “clash”, still it always felt like a welcome home.

There’s something nostalgic about items like these. Things that have lived a long life and seen many things. “If walls could talk” they’d have their own memories.

In 2019, my Nan passed away. I had to move into her house amongst all of her belongings, placed just as she’d left it. All the memories were there, but she no longer was. This is where I was when the Pandemic hit and we were ordered to stay home. It was one of the hardest times I’ve had to live through.

When a person dies, their belongings move around. Things get donated, thrown away, and some are handed down to family and friends.

You’ll see some of Nan’s belongings in this exhibition, but some of her items have floated around London and found new homes where new memories will be made around them.”

This floating collage is Lauren’s first exploration about the things our loved ones leave behind for us to remember them by.
