Black Canvas
Join us at Genesis Cinema Gallery for Black Canvas, a powerful group exhibition that celebrates the richness of our local Black artists. This exhibition coincides with Black History Month, a time dedicated to reflecting on the contributions of Black communities. Although not an official Black History Month event, this exhibition serves as a meaningful platform to elevate the voices and artistic expressions of some of our talented Black artists.
Featuring the works of Venetta Nicole and Paul Davey. Black Canvas is a celebration of contemporary Black art. Each artist brings a unique perspective and style, from meticulous illustrations to thought-provoking paintings. Together, these artists explore themes of identity, culture, and community, inviting viewers to engage with the stories and experiences that shape their work.
Dark Yellow Dot is a Black female-owned company, and proud to present this exhibition as part of its ongoing commitment to fostering creativity and providing opportunities for underrepresented artists. Black Canvas is more than just an art show; it’s a celebration of an incredibly influential community.

“I enjoy turning canvases into thought provoking statements. I have travelled a lot and the one thing that countries have in common is symbolism, inspired by this i incorporate this into my work.”
Paul Davey
Paul Davey is a Jamaican artist and illustrator.
“I have two goals for my work. One is to maintain my own interest in it. It can fade away quite easily if I’m not challenging myself. The other is to get the viewer to look at it for more than a few seconds.”
