ARTIST OF THE MONTH
About The Art
(1) oil on paper, (2) soft pastel on paper, (3) oil and charcoal on paper, and (4) Charcoal and ink on paper
In my initial year of qualified psychology practice, making art became an important outlet for me in making sense of my own experiences, the way individuals and groups were related to, and how I was related to myself. Art practice provides me with a process for dealing with the feelings of professional powerlessness that arise; a way of articulating a marginalised account not often discussed openly within my profession. I apply psychological theory to make visual depictions of my perceptions.
About The Artist
Judith is London born, of both West African and Caribbean heritage. She grew up in East London, a hyper-diverse area in inner-city London, UK. These early experiences of ethnic and socio-economic diversity provided the basis for Judith’s curiosity, and confusion, about the way we categorise or group people. Judith began making art in 2016. At this time, she was completing her doctoral research in psychology and this experience provided her with the framework for her art process and practice.
